It's about time I updated this thing. I've been working on the HUD elements for the 5 Past Midnight zombie game. Any screens I show will be standalone jpgs and will not show anything from the game.
I have decided to go with a retro HUD reminiscent of 1995 games such as DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D.
I'm still working on animating the brain to show the evolution of damage received.
Effects I'm considering include: Outer Glow, Bites(A portion of the brain will be taken away in the form of a bite), Diseased Look(Gradual Color change proportionate to current health %).
More to be added.
This project is really getting me motivated as we move along.
More space will be allowed for the score sections numbers as they will likely pass the 3-digit range.
It's a very simple design but it delivers all the necessary information. The one aspect I will have to be careful about is the size of the HUD bar itself. If it takes up too much room you may feel restricted during the game.
(Opacity options may have to be considered if this is too problematic. Although a more minimalist design may be just as effective.)

Discovery Project Update
Despite terrible computer issues at home I have managed to make some headway into my Discovery Project. After a few online tutorials Maya is once again feeling familiar. Now to finish up the character design sketches and get cracking at the real deal. I'm still struggling between an organic or mechanical model to create.... perhaps I should do the mechanical (arguably easier, but I see it this way) and save a proper organic model for my final project once I've gained some competency in Maya. Whichever, sketches flow freely and until I'm satisfied with one of them I will consider either type of model. It will still be warhammer inspired, so a mechanical model would probably end up as an imperial guard tank or Tau mech suit.... Or necrons??? Organic/Mechanical mesh?
No. Not yet. Maybe later. Sketches will be uploaded when our scanner is fixed. Until then. These are some of the models im looking to for inspiration.

Eh?
I have a blog. I hate blogs. I'm not gonna rant so I'll talk about my school projects.
Discovery Project
So we've been given a free reign project of discovery. Whatever medium, whatever we want to do within reason. Since I plan on going into game design and have been interested in 3d graphics and animation since I played my first computer game. I thought I'd have a go at designing a 3D character model in Maya. Why not. And since I'm quite a fan of the Warhammer universe, I'm going to use that as a source of inspiration for my model. Maybe a demon/daemon?(sp) Some sort of villain seems ideal. So I will probably update with pictures of my model in progress as a method of showing it off and kicking my ass into gear.
Hockey
The Raffi Torres show was on last night and it was spectacular. I haven't really paid attention to the fellow since he joined our team but I could hardly ignore his hat trick last night. I'm still not pleased that we choked on our 3 goal lead from the 1st period, but a win is a win. On a brighter note Alex Burrows is back and I'm hoping for some amazing goals from him as he rejoins the Sedins on the first line.
